And here are the details....

1) INFAMOUS hits the bookstores on Tuesday, July 27th! It's my first non-Troubleshooters book in quite a few years, and it's coming out as a paperback with a recession-busting $7.99 price.

Here's the cover blurb:

When history professor Alison Carter became a consultant to the film version of the Wild West legend she'd dedicated her career to researching, she couldn't possibly have known that she would not only get a front-row seat to a full-blown Hollywood circus but would innocently witness something that would put her life in peril. Nor did she expect that a tall stranger in a cowboy hat would turn the movie -- and her world -- completely upside down.

A.J. Gallagher didn't crash the set in dusty Arizona to rub elbows with Hollywood's elite. Unable to ignore ghosts from the past that refuse to stay buried, A.J. came to put an end to the false legend that has tarnished the reputation of his family. But when he confronts Alison, sparks fly. And when Alison is targeted by ruthless criminals, suddenly she and A.J. must face the intense attraction that threatens to consume them -- and survive the danger that threatens their very lives.

Here are some early reviews:

"INFAMOUS is the perfect combination of humor, mystery, danger, intrigue and romance. A very fun read." -- Fresh Fiction. (read the whole review at http://freshfiction.com/review.php?id=26316 )

INFAMOUS received a "Perfect 10" from Romance Reviews Today!
"INFAMOUS goes in a totally different direction for Ms. Brockmann, and its freshness and originality will not be easily matched by any other writer soon. A Perfect 10 is almost not good enough for INFAMOUS, but I am still giving it one. The uniqueness, passion, inventiveness and emotion will overwhelm everyone who reads it. If Suzanne Brockmann's books are an automatic buy for you, I suggest you get in the car now, drive to your nearest book store, and get your copy before they're all gone." -- Carolyn Crisher, Romance Reviews Today
(Thanks, Carolyn!) Read the entire review -- it'll be posted at www.romrevtoday.com on August 1st!

I've got chapter one excerpted on my website, at www.SuzanneBrockmann.com/infamous_excerpt.htm

And... A little FYI about the book, excerpted from an interview I did with Stacey at Posman Books, which has two locations, in Grand Central Station and Chelsea Market in NYC!

STACEY: And now INFAMOUS. I have to tell you that I adored this book for many reasons, but first and foremost in my mind, is that you let the humor which sits in the background of your Troubleshooters series come front and center. Can you see yourself writing more books in this vein?

SUZ: Ooh, I'm so glad you liked it! It was something a little different, after years and years of writing only Troubleshooters books, to write a story with non-Troubleshooters characters. (And I briefly toyed with the idea of bringing some familiar faces in - but only briefly. There is a Navy SEAL character in INFAMOUS, so that could have been fun. But because the INFAMOUS world contains paranormal elements, I felt quite strongly that it would've been cheating to mix the two worlds - so I didn't.)...

...But before I actually answer your question (I'm getting there!) let me tell you a little bit about this book's long, strange history. The shell of the story, originally titled GALLAGHER'S CLAIM, was something I'd written about a dozen years ago.

It was (and remains, in its current version) a somewhat curious mix of contemporary suspense, romcom, Western historical and paranormal. One of the point of view characters is the hero's great-grandfather's ghost. Back when I wrote that first version of the book, I thought the whole ghost thing was a really fun element. (And I still do!) But at the time it was too out of the norm and I was too new of an author, so the book wasn't published. For years, it lived very quietly on a shelf in my office. But it remained one of my mom's favorites of everything I'd written, and the story - particularly the historical subplot -- was one I loved, too.

About a year ago, I dusted it off and gave it a read, and still really loved the storyline and the two heroes. I pitched the idea to my editor as something a little different, to be published as a paperback original, and she gave me a thumbs up. I then proceeded to completely rewrite the book. I gave it a total overhaul. The original heroine required a greatly needed too-stupid-too-live-ectomy, which I gave her, transforming her into the book's current heroine, Alison Carter, one of my all-time favorite female characters, to date. (Along with Syd from GET LUCKY and Britt from NIGHT WATCH, and Annie from FORCE OF NATURE...)

The version of the book that's being published as INFAMOUS is interesting - it's as if I time-traveled and co-wrote it with the author that I was twelve years ago. The younger me brought a certain sweetness to the table, and the current me brought twelve additional years of writing experience. I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

But can I see myself writing more books in this vein? (See! The question you asked!) I'm not sure that's entirely possible, considering the book's unique history. But I'm willing to try!

2a) Readers who are writers and will be attending RWA's National conference: I'll be participating in two workshops this year, one with fellow thriller writer Lee Child (I'm a huge fan of his Jack Reacher series!), and one with the brilliant Dr. Sarah Franz.

On Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. I'll be giving a workshop called "Sex Appeal," with one of my favorite thriller writers, Lee Child, in the room called Asia 1. (Lee writes the fabulous Jack Reacher series. I loves me my Jack Reacher...) Here's a brief description of what we'll be discussing:

Two New York Times bestselling authors talk about their strategies for reaching beyond stereotypical boundaries, and connecting with readers outside of their subgenres. Join romantic suspense author Suzanne Brockmann and the master of the thriller Lee Child as they discuss the elements that make their books appeal to the opposite sex.

And on Friday from 9:45 - 10:45 a.m., my workshop with Dr. Sarah Franz is called "Building Theme," in the Americas Seminar Room. Here's the blurb:

Join a professor and a New York Times best-selling author as they present a fresh, lively discussion on theme: what it is, building it through plotting and characterization, and how using theme makes a story more powerful for readers.

It's going to be fun -- hope to see you there!
