What is a WISH Award?

WISH stands for "Women in Search of Heroes." WISH Awards are given by the reviewers of Romantic Times Magazine to two, three or four out of the sixty-plus series romances that are released each month from Harlequin and Silhouette. WISH Awards are given to books with exceptionally well-written, special heroes.

Note From Suz: Hey, check out my list of awards! Cool, huh? It was an honor to receive every one of these, but I wouldn’t be human if I didn’t admit that some held just a little more meaning than others.

Harvard’s Education, for example. This was only the second book in the history of Silhouette Intimate Moments to feature African-American characters. I have to admit, having Harvard win the New Jersey Golden Leaf Award for Best Long Contemporary Series Romance of 1998 was a thrill. This was one of those extra-special books for me -- it was important to me in so many ways.

And okay, on an entirely different note, there are a couple of on-line awards that I’ve won that are particularly meaningful -- awards directly from hard-core romance readers carry a lot of weight in my book! (no pun intended!) The first of these is the Francis Award. PRINCE JOE won that -- but it won the "Best Category Romance of the Year" award for 1997, even though the book was published in 1996. Those particular readers who give out this award missed it when it was first released. They decided that even though the book was a year old, it was still their favorite category book of the year!

And my other favorite award was being tied with Nora Roberts for The Literary Times BB Reader's Poll for "Best All Around Author Read This Year." Tied. With Nora!!!! What greater compliment can there be?

If anyone knows of any other on-line (or other) awards that I might have won, please email me. Some of the on-line sites don’t always let winners know! I value all the awards given, and I’d love to list ‘em all on this site!

RITA!  RITA!

Note From Suz:  So I went to the Romance Writers of America National Conference in Washington, D.C. in July 2000 as a finalist for the RITAs with three books in two different categories.  Imagine my surprise when I won not one, but TWO RITA Awards?!?

(Photo thanks to Moyra Tarling!)

So, okay, maybe my acceptance speech was incoherent!  What can I say?  I was floored!  Completely speechless!  Blown away!

The Ritas went to...  UNDERCOVER PRINCESS (Silhouette Intimate Moments) for Best Long Contemporary Series Romance

and

BODYGUARD (Ballantine/Fawcett) for Best Contemporary Single Title Romance!

I'm still in shock...

(Read my account of the RITA awards ceremony.)
