"Exciting, poignant, and all-too-believable. In "Into the Night," Brockmann really delivers in a story that brings terrorism close
to home and puts a human face on it."
-- Linda Howard
"Suzanne Brockmann, you've done it to me once again. *Into the Night* shows your virtuosity and talent in the way your previous books have. You're just making writing tougher and tougher for yourself, you know - readers are now expecting that each book will be stronger, better than the last. I look forward to seeing your name climbing the New York Times bestseller list... you've worked for it, you've earned it, and I'm proud to say I knew you when! I was immediately entranced with Muldoon and Joan (and Charlie and Vince, too) - and, of course, with this book's helping of Sam and Alyssa. It was great to see the guys again.... Honestly, every book I feel as if I'd just walked into someone's home and there met a whole boatload of old friends. " -- Merry Cutler, Bookseller
"A terrorist plot to assassinate the president on U.S. soil transforms what could have been another humorous, larger-than-life Navy SEAL romance from Brockmann (Out of Control, etc.) into a sobering story that will strike a patriotic chord with readers. Brash, 30-something White House PR assistant Joan DaCosta and shy, super-polite 25-year-old Navy SEAL Mike Muldoon are an unlikely couple, but the two quickly connect when Joan is sent to scope out the naval base in Coronado, California, for a presidential visit. Though their attraction is immediate, Joan can't bring herself to get over their age difference and the fact that they live on opposite sides of the nation. Intertwined with their off-and-on romance are the recollections of Joan's grandparents (one a WWII veteran and the other a WWII widow); details of a terrorist plot to sneak machine guns onto the base; and a side story involving SEAL wife Mary Lou Starrett's friendship with a man of Arab descent. As always, Brockmann's snappy dialogue infuses each encounter with wit and vigor, but what really stands out is her sympathetic portrayal of Mary Lou, arguably one of her least likable recurring characters. Although it will take readers a while to warm up to Mary Lou, as well as to Joan and Mike, who are less dynamic than the protagonists from Brockmann's earlier books, this is a worthy addition to the author's SEAL saga." -- Publishers Weekly.
"Lt. (jg) Mike Muldoon is SEAL Team 16’s official liaison to White House staffer Joan DaCosta as preparations are made for the President to visit their home base in Coronado to present a special commendation to the team. Prior to his visit, the President’s "wild child" daughter plans to tour the base and see the team in action. No one, except maybe Joan and the White House, is excited about the idea of these high-profile visits, especially with the current terrorist threats against the President.
Muldoon is the gorgeous hunk women swoon over, but he’s shy, for part of him is still that fat kid everyone made fun of in school. He has trouble thinking of himself as someone women could actually care deeply about. Most are just after his body and aren’t truly interested in him as a person. That is, until Joan.
Now, Joan is not a "babe" by any stretch of the imagination. She’s rather plain-looking, slightly overweight and wisecracks her way through every situation. She can’t believe a man like Mike could possibly become serious about a woman like her. A sexual relationship - yes! - but anything more permanent is unthinkable. Well, she's in for the time of her life when Mike sets his mind to wooing the uncooperative Joan.
As usual, we have several excellent underlying plots. One concerns Sam Starrett’s increasingly unhappy wife... Then a flashback plot centers around Joan’s grandparents, who were involved when the first frogmen unit (who eventually became the SEALs) were formed during WWII.
Using the aftermath of 9/11 as backdrop, Ms. Brockmann has intelligently and superbly written three intricate and interwoven plotlines, giving us a slam-bang reading experience." -- Tanzey Cutter, Editor - Old Book Barn Gazette
"exhilarating romantic suspense"
Highly regarded romantic thriller author Suzanne Brockmann provides her myriad of readers with a strong suspense tale that never slows down until the final confrontation occurs. The story line is fast-paced and loaded with action. The amiable, not so friendly, and often sexy (once Mike loosens up) dialogue between the lead couple is fun for romance readers who will enjoy the older woman (a few years) and the younger man coupling, but also slows down the terrorist subplot for the thrill seeker crowd. Still INTO THE NIGHT is an exhilarating romantic suspense that will thrill the sub-genre audience.
