11/22/11

Happy November 22nd -- a fun date to abbreviate!

I've got whole pile of news for you today, so let's get right to the headlines!

1) Today is the release date for the long-awaited reissue of FUTURE PERFECT, my first-ever romance novel. It's out in print in paperback and also available as an e-book and as an audiobook! More below, but go to http://www.suzannebrockmann.com/FUTUREPERFECT.html if you absolutely can't wait another second to download or order a copy!

2) BORN TO DARKNESS, the first book in my brand new "Fighting Destiny" series won't be in stores until March 20, 2012. But I've got quite a few fun things planned to pass the time between now and then, including a "Countdown" to the book's release, a virtual signing, a special e-book short story featuring the book's former-Navy-SEAL hero, and a lot of cool photos and videos of the series' six main characters, exactly as I imagine them in the dark and murky depths of my head...

3. Movie news: A progress report on THE PERFECT WEDDING, the independent feature film my production company shot this past June. (Co-written by my husband, my son and me!)

4. Links to recent blogs and articles: I recently sat down for an interview with B&N's Marisa O'Neill. I also did a blog on the "science" of debuting as an author (or debuting a new series) with Joan Swan and Joyce Lamb. Links are below!

5. I'm consolidating my Facebook pages! From this point forward, I'm moving my discussions about books and writing and living the writer's life to my main Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/SuzanneBrockmannBooks Make sure you drop in and hit "like" to continue to get news and updates!

6. My most recent FAQ of late is something like this: "Hey, I've noticed that you've released an e-book short story called WHEN TONY MET ADAM. But I don't have an e-reader. Are you going to be releasing a print version? How can I read this Troubleshooters short story?" (A link to my answer below...)

7. Good things to read, part one: Fans of military romance should check out Jessica Scott's BECAUSE OF YOU.

8. Good things to read part two: There's a new blogger in town, and her name is Amelia. I highly recommend her posts.

9. Other book release news!
1/31/12 -- BREAKING THE RULES, out in paperback from Ballantine Books
2/6/12 -- SHANE'S LAST STAND, an e-book short story, out in all e-formats from Ballantine Books

Okay, on to the details!

1) Today, 11/22/11, is the release date for the long-awaited reissue of FUTURE PERFECT, in both paperback and e-book from Bantam, and in audiobook from Brilliance audio.

FUTURE PERFECT's original release date was August 1993. (Dang, that's nearly eighteen years ago. My kids were still little kids when this, my first-ever romance novel, came out.) It was previously published by Meteor Kismet. In fact, it was the very last romance novel that Meteor ever published before they closed their doors forever. (And why, oh why, are we ever surprised when a company with a name like Meteor streaks across the sky before vanishing...?)

For almost all of the nearly eighteen years since the book was first published, FUTURE PERFECT has been out of print and ridiculously hard to find. So I'm really pleased that Bantam is finally making it available. I'm also really happy to let audiobook listeners know that Patrick Lawlor narrates the audiobook. (FUTURE PERFECT is far more romance-y than my Troubleshooters books, so he wasn't quite sure what hit him. But I know you'll enjoy his read!)

A little bit about the book...
It's set in Western Massachusetts, where the heroine, Juliana Anderson runs a bed and breakfast.

Sidebar for some cool trivia: My original title for this book was (big surprise!) BED & BREAKFAST. But in the very early days of a fledgling writer's career, when the publisher wants to change the title, the correct response is, "Thank you for the new title!" As opposed to "What the heck does FUTURE PERFECT mean, anyway?"

I never really did figure that one out. But since it's more important not to confuse readers, we made the command decision to keep FUTURE PERFECT as the title for this current Bantam reissue. We didn't want those of you who've read FUTURE PERFECT to pick up BED & BREAKFAST thinking it was something brand new.

Okay, back to our previously scheduled broadcast.

So, we've got the heroine, Juliana running her B&B in western Mass, where the hero, Webster Donovan, checks in, in an attempt to battle his current case of writer's block. Sparks fly and attraction ignites and (you guessed it!) passion ensues. It's a category romance, but there's a fun subplot with Juliana's extremely pregnant best friend.

Oh, and one last thing: There's an excerpt to BORN TO DARKNESS, my next hardcover release from Ballantine Books, in the back of FUTURE PERFECT. (So check it out!)

Read the cover blurb to FUTURE PERFECT, and find links to buy the book and audio at http://www.suzannebrockmann.com/FUTUREPERFECT.html

2) News about BORN TO DARKNESS!

BORN TO DARKNESS is the first book in my brand new "Fighting Destiny" series.

The cover blurb is up on my website, but here's a brief description from the Random House catalog:

In the not-too-distant future, the Obermeyer Institute (OI) has made a revolutionary discovery: With special training, humans can tap into the brain's hidden powers (telepathy, telekinetic powers, super strength, and more). The training is strenuous, though, and it works only for those with natural potential. Tough girl Mac has that potential, and she's a devoted member of the OI. But there's one rule she can't help but bend. Her boss thinks celibacy is key to their work. Mac's learned differently--an active sexual life enhances her powers. And when she meets Shane, a sexy former Navy SEAL, the sparks are instant. But after the two spend an amazing night together, Mac finds out that Shane's a new recruit at the institute. How can she mix business and pleasure?

BORN TO DARKNESS will be out in hardcover and e-book from Ballantine, and in audio from Brilliance on March 20, 2012.

November, December, January, February, March... It seems like that's a loooong way away.

But November's almost over. And we're all going to be busy next month. December always just flies by. And in January we're recovering from December, so...

Before you know it, it'll be February.

And February 1, 2012 is when the official virtual signing for BORN TO DARKNESS goes live on my website. Readers from around the world can order a personalized, signed hardcover copy of BtoD. (I'm working, right now, on a special bonus "extra" for those who order the book through my virtual signing. Stay tuned for details about that...)

February 6, 2012 marks the release date for my e-short-story featuring the hero of BORN TO DARKNESS, former Navy SEAL Shane Laughlin. Yes, the hero of the first book in my Fighting Destiny series is a former SEAL. What can I say? I just haven't tired of writing about men who strive to be the best of the best. In this book, though, I throw my SEAL hero into a very strange new world.

Here's part of the cover blurb that focuses on Shane:

Dishonorably discharged, former Navy SEAL Shane Laughlin is down to his last ten bucks when he finally finds work as a test subject at the Obermeyer Institute, a little-known and believed-to-be-fringe scientific research facility. When he enters the OI compound, he is plunged into a strange world where seemingly mild-mannered scientists -- including women half his size -- can kick his highly skilled ass.

So when BORN TO DARKNESS begins, Shane's just had a pretty rough year.

Still, I thought it would be fun to give readers a chance to meet Shane in the role in which he defines himself -- that of an officer in the U.S. Navy SEALs. You know, I've always felt that SEALs make such fascinating heroes in part because of the company they keep. (Plus, I love all of the many facets of male friendship -- the humor, the loyalty, the honor, the endless teasing and mocking...)

So I wrote a short called SHANE'S LAST STAND that tells the story of Shane's final heroic mission with his SEAL team. Readers will get a chance to see Shane in action with his team of men -- some of whom will be back in future books in the Fighting Destiny series! (I'll send out a reminder e-newsletter when SHANE'S LAST STAND is available.)

But wait, that's not all! <g> I've got more BtoD promotional events planned between now and March 20th, to help pass the time.

February 14, 2012 is Valentine's Day -- and it's also the kickoff to my official "Countdown to BORN TO DARKNESS" on my website and Facebook page. I'll be posting a new blog (with photos, and links to videos, too) about the new series, the book, and the characters every day, Monday through Friday, until BtoD's March 20th release.

You know, one of my FAQs from readers is, "How would you cast the movie or TV show for your book?"

And because I have my own production company and I've dabbled in producing both plays and movies, I decided to hold auditions and do just that: Cast BORN TO DARKNESS and hold a photo shoot. That way readers can the six main characters in this new series *exactly* the way I see 'em.

The photo shoot was a smashing success -- it was an all-day marathon of goodness, from which my extremely talented photographer, Shirin Tinati, got over 800 usable photographs. I have solo shots of each character. I have two-shots of the hero and heroine. I have group shots. I have candids and posed shots. I even have video snippets so that readers will be able to see these characters as they move and talk. (We didn't film any scenes, but we did shoot key character-defining lines of dialog.)

All of those photos (and the videos) will be part of my Countdown to BtoD. I can't wait to share them with you.

In fact, I'm going to give you a sneak preview and post one of full cast group shots on my website. You can see it at http://www.SuzanneBrockmann.com/fd1btodphotos1.html

And oh, yeah: I also posted the first excerpt from the book. You can read it at http://www.SuzanneBrockmann.com/fd1BorntoDarknessExcerpt.html

3. Movie news: A progress report on THE PERFECT WEDDING, the independent feature film my production company shot this past June. (Co-written by my husband, my son and me!)

We're still in post-production, with hopes of having the movie finished by the end of the year. Our plan is to enter it in film festivals as soon as it's ready to go. (Believe me, as soon as there's any news, I'll let you know!)

In the meantime you can visit our website at http://www.theperfectweddingmovie.com/
