Contest entries accepted from July 27th through August 8, 2010
(see complete rules below!) (contest now closed!)
Writing a book isn't easy, but I've found that writing short (a synopsis or log line) can be an even bigger challenge. So how about three lines that explain why you think you should win this contest and attend the Write From the Heart Conference in Ohio in October? Better yet, how about a verse of HAIKU...?

Here are the contest rules:

Rule # 1: This prize is not transferable, so please don't enter unless you know you can attend the COFW Write from the Heart Conference on October 1 & 2, 2010 in Worthington (near Columbus), Ohio. (In other words, you can't win and then give the prize to your cousin Phyllis who lives in Ohio.) (You can, however call Phyllis and tell her to enter!)

Rule # 2: Limit two emailed entries per person. (And that's PERSON, not email address. Each entry must contain the contestant's real name.)

Rule # 3: No cheating. (We're nice people. Be nice to us.)

Rule # 4: Taxes are the responsibility of the winner. (My husband the lawyer made me say that!)

Rule # 5: This prize consists only of the Write from the Heart 2010 conference fee, estimated value $128. Travel and hotel expenses will be the responsibility of the winner. (More legal stuff that I had to state specifically to avoid confusion and disappointment.)

Rule # 6: I (Suz Brockmann) will be the sole judge of this contest and my decision will be final. (So no whining!)

Rule # 7: Send your email with your Haiku verse that explains why you should win this contest and attend the Write From the Heart Conference to BrockmannS@aol.com with HAIKU CONTEST in the subject header, and your real name and email address right at the top. Please send only one Haiku verse per contest entry. (NOTE: THIS EMAIL ADDRESS -- BrockmannS@aol.com -- IS NOT MY USUAL EMAIL ADDRESS!) (Also note: My brave and handsome husband Ed will be opening these emails and presenting them to me in a format that will not include any names (screen and/or real names) with the entries. See, this way I can judge the contest fairly.)

Rule # 8: For the purpose of this contest, Haiku will be defined as a short, three line form of poetry with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line and five syllables in the third line. (See examples here on my website!)

Rule # 9: Humor is encouraged!

Rule # 10: Entries sent to my other email addresses will be deleted and disqualified. Please send Haiku Contest Entries only to BrockmannS@aol.com (Have I said this often enough yet?!)

Rule # 11: Email entries must be received by Sunday, August 8, 2010, at noon ET.

Rule # 12: Verification of email entries will be sent via email auto-response reply to the email address from which the entry was sent. If you don't get a verification of entry, please resend!

Rule # 13: Winner will be notified by email on or before August 13, 2010, and winner's name and winning entry will be posted here on my website. (I'll try to announce the winner earlier that week, but I'm purposely giving myself a week, in case I get four million haikus to read and judge!)

Details about the conference:

October 1 & 2, 2010 -- Holiday Inn, Worthington, Ohio (Columbus area)
Keynote Speaker for the Central Ohio Fiction Writers Write from the Heart Conference!
Note from Suz: In July of 2008, during RWA National, I told the president of this group that I'd keynote their conference if Obama won the election, and I'm wonderfully, brilliantly thrilled to uphold my end of that bargain. (And I've just found out my friend and fellow writer Virginia Kantra will be attending this conference as a workshop speaker!)
I'll be presenting the keynote address and three workshops: "The Whole Enchilada," (an overview of writing romance, from getting inspired to creating tall, dark and dangerous heroes); "Breaking the Rules and Kicking Door Doors," (writing the non-traditional romance novel); and a Q&A session.
